Remote Sensing

Remotely sensed observations, taken from sensors aboard aircraft or satellites in space, provide information about land surface properties over much broader areas than can be measured on the ground. These observations are often much more cost efficient than ground measurements in terms of price per unit area.

At Applied Geosolutions, we research and develop custom algorithms to translate raw mechanical observations from a diverse array of sensors into ecologically relevant attributes. We typically integrate data from multiple sensors, including multispectral, hyperspectral, radar, and lidar, to produce reliable estimates of the state of the land surface. Examples include:

Estimating fractional cover of green and senescent vegetation using data from MODIS and Landsat data.
Mapping land cover change using IKONOS and Landsat data
Mapping tillage practice using multi-resolution optical satellite data.
Estimating invasive species at the watershed level.
